Any election, besides being democratic, offers a new hope. We can hope that the early elections would mobilize the good part of our society in dealing with the challenges faced by Moldova on the path of European integration, ex-Premier Valeriu Strelet said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN. According to him, the possible early elections could have a different outcome than the one anticipated now by political players or surveys. These could take the country to a different integrationist project than the current one.
“The performance of the pro-European government coalition until now, on the other hand, and the massive eastern propagandistic media influences and the very aggressive manner in politics of the parties of the left, which are generously funded with money from outside the country, on the other hand, could lead to a rather speculator twist in the general political orientation of the Republic of Moldova. Today the European integration is regarded as an absolute priority. We don’t know what can happen after the early elections,” stated the Lib-Dem.
Valeriu Strelet said the PLDM had discussions immediately after the October 29 vote, within the party’s Political Bureau. On November 1 the party had a meeting in an extended format, but didn’t manage to identify a solution. “We will take a decision this week. I hope we will manage to reach a decision in the meeting of the party’s National Political Council. We will take into account all the opinions, starting from the political responsibility we bear and from the idea that we can no longer identify ourselves with the wrongdoings committed until now and with the tendencies to conserve a corrupt system. I personally see this tendency in the behavior of the Democratic Party and of the main players of this party,” he stated.
Asked how the next ruling alliance will look like, with or without the PLDM, Valeriu Strelet said that if the PLDM formed part of it, this alliance would be very inconvenient for the Democrats. Without the PLDM, it would be more convenient for the Democrats and the system that was built until now would be probably conserved.
As to the path of European integration covered by Moldova, the Lib-Dem said this is a difficult road because the periods of political instability witnessed since last autumn caused delays in the implementation of the Association Agreement. Moldova became famous in Europe and the whole world owing to the mega bank fraud, the perpetuation of corruption and other negative phenomena that would hamper the exemplary implementation of the accord.
