Valeriu Matei: Criminal elements were infiltrated among protesters on April 7

On April 7, the young people staged a lawful revolt, but the Ministry of the Interior brought criminal elements by buses and infiltrated them among the protesters, Valeriu Matei, writer and former Deputy Head of Parliament, said after he was questioned by prosecutors as a witness in the April 2009 events case on February 11, Info-Prim Neo reports. Matei said he himself saw three buses, one of which belonging to the Department of Penitentiary Institutions. Athletically-built young men with cropped hair got out and mingled with the crowd, inciting the protesters to violence and vandalizing the state buildings. Matei said he has evidence proving this. Valeriu Matei accuses former President Vladimir Voronin of cowardice and of trying to discredit the Opposition and show that it was against the state. “The former head of state Vladimir Voronin and his clique are to blame for those events as after the April 5 elections they made statements that insulted the young people and the entire population of Moldova,” Valeriu Matei said. “Why didn't Voronin's ideologists and his governors come out and try to talk to the crowd? A politician must take certain risks.”
