Valeriu Gritco elected Judge to ECHR

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has elected Valeriu Gritco as Judge to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) with respect of Moldova. According to MP Valeriu Ghiletchi, who attended the PACE session, Valeriu Gritco received 133 votes, significantly above the 95 required. Valeriu Gritco, 53, hails from Donduseni. He holds the nationality of both Moldova and Romania. He is married and has a daughter. A graduate of the Moldova State University's Law Faculty, he served as judge at the Centru District Court and the Buiucani District Court in Chisinau. Other positions include legal adviser to the United States Embassy in Moldova, legal adviser to the World Bank Office in Moldova, and legal adviser to a French bank. Gritco is fluent in English, French and Russian. Besides Gritco, the list submitted by the Moldovan Government to the PACE also included lawyer Mihail Buruiana and Deputy Justice Minister Vladimir Grosu. PACE is holding its fourth ordinary session during October 1-5 in Strasbourg.
