Valeriu Ghiletski on January 18 presented the signatures and the set of documents required for being registered as a candidate in constituency No. 51, which covers the U.S and Canada, for the February 24, 2019 parliamentary elections to the Chisinau District Electoral Council, IPN reports.
“Today we completed the process of collecting signatures. To my mind, it was a good campaign. We managed to collect 1,000 signatures and I’m glad that we also collect signatures over the ocean. As I will run in constituency No. 51 the U.S and Canada, it seemed very important to me to have also the support of citizens who leave over the ocean,” Valeriu Ghiletski told the press.
The politician also said that he personally collected signatures in the U.S,. where he had meetings with compatriots and could find out more about their life there.
To be registered as an electoral contender in a single-member constituency, the applicant must present the subscription lists with the signatures of at least 500 and at most 1,000 supporters with the right to vote. A woman candidate can be registered if this presents the signatures of at least 250 and at most 500 supporters with the right from the constituency where she intends to run.
The electoral council takes a decision as to the registration or non-registration of the applicant within seven days of the receipt of the required documents.
