The current situation in Moldova requires a position on the sociopolitical doctrine that should be promoted in the country to ensure a clear understanding of the further development of the state. Eliminating geopolitics from Moldova means eliminating a very important political segment. For the Republic of Moldova, this would mean abandonment of the European integration course. The people should understand that without realizing this aspect of state development, the objectives cannot be achieved.
The statements were made by the chairman of the European People’s Party Group Valeriu Ghiletski in the public debate “Starting position of political parties and eventual independent candidates on official pro-European platform before an electoral year”, which was the 84th installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates” organized by IPN News Agency. The politician noted that Moldova is in a rather difficult economic situation and the state needs market liberalization and measures to attract investments and this can be achieved only by Europeanization.
According to Valeriu Ghiletski, the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) will continue to support Moldova’s European course as particular progress was made by this path for the benefit of the country and the people and this path should be thus continued. “For us, the European integration remains a priority when the political position of the party is specified in elections campaigns and in its activity in the legislative body. The coming closer to the European system of values offers increased security, safety, correctness and prospects for better living conditions,” stated the MP.
Commenting on President Igor Dodon’s statements about the Eastern Partnership Summit, Valeriu Ghiletski said the Head of State promotes rather the interests of Russia than of Moldova. “Following the European integration path does not mean being against the Russian Federation. It is a path to Moldova’s development and modernization, improvement of the level of welfare. We should have a very clear view of where Moldova will be in five or ten years. I see it as a part of the European community,” he said.
According to the MP, the only political opponents of the PPEM are those who oppose Moldova’s European integration. All the others have the status of electoral rivals. “It is regrettable that some of the pro-European extraparliamentary parties strike the pro-European parliamentary parties. This is not right as the pro-European voters are thus fragmented. If we enter Parliament, we will be ready for discussions to form a pro-European alliance,” he stated.
Valeriu Ghiletski also said that the election campaigns in Moldova are rather harsh and the runoff sometimes does not stimulate negotiations to support a common candidate. “We would like to come to terms with parties that support Moldova’s European integration in the upcoming campaign. We are at a crossroads. The European integration is not irreversible in our country. Additional dialogue, understanding and political maturity are needed in this regard,” he noted.

This is the fourth and last debate of the mini-series of debates staged by IPN the past few days, which involved representatives of parties from four main political platforms.
