A group of priests of Saint Theodora de la Sihla Church Wednesday officiated at a religious ceremony held in the Great National Assembly Square, at the place where Valeriu Boboc was allegedly killed on the night of April 8, 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports. The priests remembered Valeriu Boboc and other young persons who presumably died during the protests - Eugen Tapu, Ion Tibuleac and Maxim Canishchev – in prayers. Candles were lit in the place where it is supposed that Valeriu Boboc died. Flowers were also laid in that place. Acting President Mihai Ghimpu brought two yellow roses. He said it was a shame that police officers killed young people in the neighborhood of the Metropolitan Cathedral. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the peaceful protesters were attacked and beaten by policemen and the pictures taken by the video cameras from the Government Building confirm this. “This is a sin and a shame for Moldova. 20 years after the great national assemblies and the national revival movement and after declaring the independence of the country, crimes were committed not by representatives of the criminal underworld, but by the authorities,” Dorin Chirtoaca said. Valeriu Boboc's father Victor Boboc told Info-Prim Neo that his son was dutiful and harmed nobody. He stressed that he wasn't a criminal as some say. Valeriu Boboc wanted to live freely and decently in his own country. “He was chosen as a victim because he was obedient. I'm sure that those who beat and killed young people will be held accountable. If somebody tries to avoid responsibility, Valeriu will make sure from heaven that those who tortured young people are punished,” Victor Boboc said. The event was attended by Valeriu Boboc's parents, wife and child. Easter bread, painted eggs and candles were put on the commemoration table.
