The relations between Italy and Moldova are special, while linguistic proximity facilitates the mutual integration of both Moldovans and Italians. For many Moldovans, Italy is the country where their loved ones settled. An eloquent example of integration is the large number of mixed marriages. The statements were made by the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Valeria Biagiotti, in a video interview for IPN.
"While I avoid painting with a broad brush, I think that the linguistic proximity facilitates integration in both countries. An eloquent example of integration is the large number of mixed marriages between the citizens of our countries. For example, between 2015 and 2016, there were 1600 marriages between Moldovan and Italian citizens in Italy. This figure is 70% higher than the the total number of marriages registered between Moldovan citizens in Italy", said Valeria Biagiotti.
In her opinion, this figure shows the high degree of integration of the peoples of the two states. However, there are some issues, namely the issue of disputed children by parents. This type of cases requires enormous effort, especially collaboration between the institutions of the two countries.
In other news, the Ambassador said that it is important to face the challenges of globalization and the flow increase of people. "It is important to face these situations in solidarity and coordonation between all countries, including European Union countries", said Valeria Biagiotti.
Additionally, the Italian ambassador said that in general, she managed to establish excellent relations with all those with whom she interacted while carrying out her duties in Moldova. "I must admit that I have often been impressed by the enthusiasm and the professionalism with which my interlocutors performed their tasks, even if they had to face certain difficulties in regard to resources", said the official.
The video interview given to the IPN Press Agency by the Italian Republic's ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Valeria Biagiotti, is part of the cycle "Relations of the Republic of Moldova with development partners", supported by the German Foundation Hans Seiddel.
