Valentina Buliga: Potential of persons with disabilities should be developed to the maximum

The potential of the persons with disabilities should be developed to the maximum and it’s a pity not to see their talents, stated Democratic MP Valentina Buliga. In the talk show “Issue of the day” on Canal2 channel, the MP said a lot of work is yet to be done as regards the attitude to these persons and their social inclusion, IPN reports.

Valentina Buliga said the unwillingness to employ persons with disabilities is due to employers’ distrust, misapprehension, stigmatization in parts and fear that these persons will be unable to do their job.

She noted the allocations and pensions remain a priority for the government. As of January 1, 2018, following the amendment of the law, the children younger than 18 can get disability allowances. The minimum subsistence level hasn’t been yet ensured for all the persons with disabilities. “Our goal is to make sure that no person with disabilities has a pension smaller than the minimum subsistence level,” noted the MP.

Nicolae Ciobanu, specialist of the Association of Blind People, said Moldovan society generally accepts the persons with disabilities, but there are particular shortcomings in education. Some of the educators cannot teach children with disabilities because of insufficient training and the number of specialists is low. “I think this drawback will be gradually overcome,” he stated.

According to Nicolae Ciobanu, the persons with disabilities represent 5% of the country’s population and this is a high percentage for a society with a complicated economy that does not offer sufficient conditions for supporting them.
