Valea Morilor Pond to be fenced

The pond in Chisinau's Valea Morilor Park will be surrounded with a half-a-meter high and 2.1-kilometer long protection fence with decorative lights as part of the Park's restoration works. Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca invited all the interested city's residents to join the municipal staff in a clean-up effort at the Park on Saturday. He revealed that this year the municipality plans to finish all the restoration work on the pond and the decorative lights, and in the following years to revamp other alleys if financing is identified in a potential public-private partnership. Chirtoaca promised that this summer it will be possible to swim in the pond. Roman Sofroni, head of the municipal construction enterprise, said that the bed of the pond was paved with stone and the beach was prepared for the summer season. Eliferie Haruta, the head of the municipal green spaces agency, informed that among those involved in the Saturday's clean-up will be municipal workers, companies, National Army troops and volunteers from the “Hai Chisinau!” Campaign. In the fall of 2006 the pond in Valea Morilor Park was desiccated after all the fish in it perished. Restoration works were restarted in 2009.
