Valea Morilor Lake cleaning has begun
The Green spaces administration association has begun on Friday, October 27, the evacuation of the waters from „Valea Morilor” Lake from Chisinau.
An order in this matter has been signed by general interim mayor Vasile Ursu, while the General Finances Department has to finance the operations. These actions will be in accordance with the “Valea Morilor” Park development action plan, approved by a Governmental order and included in the priority public development projects of Chisinau municipal.
The idea to reconstruct the „Valea Morilor” area and to remove the mud from the lake bottom belongs to the municipal public authorities and has been taken after the incident from last summer, when over 3 tons of fish died because of the thick mud layer and lack of oxygen. The Chisinau City Hall together with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources have suggested back then to clean the lake and cover the bottom and banks of the lake with granite plates.
The „Valea Morilor” park and the lake from this area have been constructed in 1952. The surface of the complex is 102 hectare, of which 36 is the lake. The water evacuation method has been considered as most efficient from an ecological point of view, and the mud was evaluated at 2 million cubic meters (approx. 2 m of mud on the whole lake bottom). This method will also allow to strengthen the banks and to clean the draining.
Interim mayor Vasile Ursu declared that these actions should transform the Valea Morilor park in a leisure area, where citizens could rest and swim without the risk of illness.
