Vadim Krasnoselski elected ‘president’ of Transnistrian region

The preliminary results of the so-called presidential elections held in the Transnistrian region on December 11 show that the current chairman of the local Supreme Soviet Vadim Krasnoselski gained most of the votes. Incumbent leader of Transnistria Yevgheny Shevchuk finished second, but at a great distance, IPN reports.

According to the Transnistrian news portal PMR, the foreign observers described the voting process as ‘rather legitimate, free and transparent’. As to the identified violations, the observers said the largest part of these were technical in character and could not affect the election outcome.

Voter turnout was 59.16%.
