Vadim Brînzan: State pays the bill for the former government’s electoral charity

The Moldova Government is considering the possibility of coming up with winter-season payouts for low-income people, in order to compensate the increase in electricity tariffs. The statement has been made by the Minister of Economy and Finance Vadim Brînzan, who, during a press conference held on August 20, declared that the state would thus pay the former government’s bill for the electoral charity and the pressures exerted on the National Regulatory Energy Authority (ANRE), IPN reports.

"This increase should have been made half a year ago. The former government has influenced ANRE to postpone this decision, creating a 20-million lei energy supply budget deficit”, the Minister of Economy said.

Vadim Brînzan also mentioned that ANRE must be an independent and efficient institution, aside from political games and influence.

Vadim Brînzan also mentions that an audit at the electricity supply companies shall be conducted. "We need to know what influences the operational costs, tariffs and prices and see the justified and unjustified costs that are reflected in the energy tariffs," the Minister of Economy said.

Vadim Brînzan also said at the conference that next days, Vadim Ceban would be appointed chair of Moldovagaz board. “The final decision will be taken by Gazprom, but Vadim Ceban has the Government’s support," the Minister of Economy noted.
