The aspirant for the office of President of Moldova Vadim Branzan said the Republic of Moldova can have a modern economy because it has human capital, a good geographical position and rich soil. In a news conference at IPN, he noted that the country must shift from agricultural economy to an economy based mainly on services. Moldova has the capacity to become a service provider for large companies like India, China and Indonesia.
Vadim Branzan said that if he becomes Head of State, he will endeavor to free the state institutions from political dependence. He considers that reform measures should be taken in the justice sector first of all and the composition of the Superior Council of Magistracy should be modified.
He stated that many people in Moldova make considerable effort to study. Investments should be made in training labor force so as to later develop the economy. The presence of skilled labor force and the absence of corruption will attract large investors to the country and these will create more jobs.
As President, Vadim Branzan will also institute rigorous control at public tender contests. He said he started to build a team of powerful, technocratic persons who know how to intervene to give an impetus to the economy.
“The people in our country pay surprisingly high taxes. The sums are comparable with those in the U.S. But there they pay for good roads and studies of a high quality. In our country, the state budget is managed inefficiently,” he said, noting that a large part of the state budget goes to maintain the offices and cars of state functionaries.
Vadim Branzan stated that if he is elected Head of State, he will set a salary of 1 leu for him and will drastically reduce the costs for the state guard, for the President’s home, etc. These are not populist actions as he rather hopes to give an example to other state officials so that these do not live in luxury based on taxpayers’ money. “It is unacceptable for the officials to live in luxury in the poorest and most corrupt state in Europe,” he said.
Vadim Branzan noted that if he does not manage to collect the signatures needed for running in the presidential elections, he will throw his support to the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu and the head of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase.
