Vaccination of teachers would make students’ return to classrooms possible, NGO

The immunization of teachers from the risk group against the novel coronavirus would make the students’ return to classrooms possible, said the public association “Solidary Parents”, which intends to make the necessary approaches to the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission, IPN reports.

The association’s executive director Ala Revenco said that according to the National Bureau of Statistics, 26,900 teachers worked in primary and secondary general education institutions in Moldova in 2020. About 20% or 5,400 of them are persons older than 60. “With proper organization, these 5,400 teachers can be vaccinated during two days and in a week of the vaccination, or two weeks at the most, the lessons in classrooms can be resumed,’” stated Ala Revenco, being quoted in a press release of the organization.

She noted that statistics show the number of daily infections among health workers decreased considerably and the effect is visible even after the first dose of vaccine is administered.

Ala Revenco also said the current situation cannot be continued as a part of the children do not even have access to online education in the absence of computers, tablet PCs or smartphones. The closing of education institutions cannot be justified as long as activities that involve groups of people are permitted elsewhere. Many parents complained that their children’s vision has worsened after they started to study online given that they need to stay long in front of the cellphone or computer.
