As from November 18, the children aged 12 and up will be vaccinated against COVID-19 at immunization centers, except for mobile ones, based on the consent of the legal representative, Svetlana Nicolaescu, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference.
As regards the vaccination series in the case of children, the functionary said that two types of vaccines are authorized at global level – Pfizer and Moderna. Moldova now has Pfizer available. “The children will be immunized with two doses of this vaccine at an interval of 21 days between them,” stated Svetlana Nicolaescu.
In another development, the functionary spoke about the administration of the booster shot of COVID-19 to persons who got two doses. She said a positive decision was taken in this regard, but there are technical obstacles here. To transpose the recommendations to a Ministry of Health decision, there should be no ambiguity as to the categories eligible for the booster dose and the vaccination series. The third dose will be primarily administered to health workers and other frontline workers, older persons and persons with comorbidies. “We now do not intend to administer the booster dose to the general population. We refer to healthy adults who will most probably be included in the program at the next stages,” stated Svetlana Nicolaescu.
