Vaccination against Human Papillomavirus starts in November

As many as 15,000 girls aged 10 will be immunized against the Human Papillomavirus as of this November. The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) will provide vaccines free to Moldova for 2017-2018.

Also, during 2019-2025, Moldova will purchase shots at lower prices through the agency of UNICEF. The subject was discussed by Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan and GAVI Regional Director Colette Selman in a meeting of the Global Health Workforce Alliance in Geneva that is held during May 21-25.

Immunization is recommended for girls aged between 9 and 11 as at this age it protects best against precancerous and cancerous conditions of the cervix caused by the papillomavirus.

The medical workers will be familiarized with the stages of vaccination, procedures and contraindications. There will be worked out a strategy for preventing and combating cervical cancer.
