Starting with September 28, the Romanian citizens who got the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine over six months ago can get the third vaccine dose. The Romanian authorities announced that the third dose can be any of the messenger RNA vaccine, regardless of the type of the initial dose. This way, the persons vaccinated with Astra Zeneca will be administered one of the vaccines produced by Pfizer&BioNTech or Spikevax (Moderna) as the third dose, IPN reports.

“Given that the immunization with Johnson&Johnson in Romania started on May 4, the administration of the third dose to persons immunized with this vaccine is not necessary at present. Details about this recommendation will be agreed in the immediate period, immediately after new scientific data become available,” said vaccinare-covid.gov.ro.

The persons who want to get the third dose can make an appointment by the already known methods, including by going directly to vaccination centers or through the agency of the national vaccination scheduling platform. The third dose is firmly recommended to persons facing a bigger risk of developing severe firms, those older than 65, those with chronic diseases, regardless of age, persons exposed to the risk of infection, including health workers and education sector employees.

The Moldovans with Romanian nationality can also get vaccinated in Romania. The Moldovan authorities warned yet that vaccine certificates are issued only to persons who are fully vaccinated in the country as they do not possess information about the citizens immunized outside the country.
