IDIS Viitorul's Economic Sentiment Index for January-June hit a record high of 118.91 points, Info-Prim Neo reports. The rise in value is ascribed by IDIS experts to higher confidence scores in such sectors as services, agriculture and industry. An important factor is also the seasonal trend in business activity. The peculiarity of the Moldovan economy, which is mainly based on agriculture and services, is that it is much more active during the summer. The first place by confidence in June is occupied by the sector of services with 128.1 points, by 6.9 points more than in January. This rise is related to the fact that during the summer, in the vacation season, more and more consumers channel their expenses into leisure activities, medical and social services. A downward trend has been recorded in the construction sector. While in the first five months of the year the construction sector occupied the leading position, in June it slipped down two spots to three, after agriculture, with 120.7 points. This decrease in confidence – 6.5 points – was the largest among the studied sectors. The study forecasts inflation to stand at 0.8 percent in June and 2.5 percent in the next three months. However, if food prices drop considerably, we may even see a slight deflation, which, overall, will not influence annual inflation forecasts.
