By October 2014, when the State Technical University (UTM) will mark 50 years of the foundation, its students, in cooperation with a number of national and international organizations, intend to launch the first satellite of Moldova into space, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat said in this connection that the project has a large connotation. A sum of 1.8 million lei has been invested in the project so far. “The financial resources and any other support needed for completing this project will be provided by the Government of Moldova,” he promised.
According to the UTM rector Ion Bostan, they need money to purchase image reception antennas that will be installed at the north and the south of Moldova. The costs are estimated at 3 million lei. “This project motivated the young people to take part in the creation of innovations,” he stated.
The rector said that the satellite will be a signal for foreign investors. “It is a socioeconomic dimension for cadastre services, flood prognostications and for monitoring the ecological and hydrological state of lakes and rivers,” added Ion Bostan
The project involves 70 students of the UTM.
