The Moldova State University (USM) has launched the project “Bessarabian Academy” – an interdisciplinary program for Romanian language and history and teachers funded by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova. The project aims to create a community for teachers, facilitating the exchange of good practices and promoting cross-border cooperation to address contemporary challenges, in the light of societal developments at the beginning of the third millennium, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the USM, given the aggression against the history of Romanians in the Republic of Moldova, it is necessary to prepare Romanian language and history teachers as well as possible, so that they can cope with misinformation and manipulation regarding the history of Romanians and the Romanian language.

“The Bessarabian Academy is important for Romanian language and history teachers (who promote historical content) in schools and universities, as well as for students/pupils amidst the geopolitical changes and threats to Eastern European states, together with the outbreak of Russia’s war on Ukraine, which began in 2022 and continues to this day,” says the press release.

An inaugural conference with an expected attendance of 100 will be held within the program. Presentations by specialists in the field of historical education will be staged there, as will be activities for the exchange of good practices, thematic working sessions and workshops, debates and practical exercises, a cultural socialization program, a constructive dialogue for historical education and others.

At the end of the project, a resolution of the Bessarabian Academy will be adopted.

The project will be implemented during July 4-7 by the Moldova State University and the Moldova Branch of the General Association of Teachers of Romania. It will be officially launched on July 4, at the USM’s Regina Maria Hall, starting at 11:30 a.m.
