USM dorms to be renovated within public-private partnership projects
The dormitories No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the State University of Moldova (USM) located on Tighina St will be renovated within public-private partnership projects, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a Government decision.
According to Minister of Education Maia Sandu, after renovation the rooms will accommodate by two students and will have a shower and a toilet. There will be by a dining room for 4-6 students. The buildings will have attics.
The decision is aimed at increasing the accommodation capacities of the existing dormitories, providing the teachers with dwellings, creating an efficient and sustainable system for managing dorms by transferring them to the private partner, optimizing the payments for accommodation in dorms and the maintenance costs.
The Ministry of Education was designated the public authority responsible for the selection of the private partner and the signing of the contact with it. The contract with the private partner that will manage the dorms will be valid for a period of 25 years. All the reconstruction, modernization and maintenance costs in the period will be covered by the private partner that will recoup its investments by providing accommodation services. When the contract expires, the private partner will transfer the dorms to the state in a good condition free of charge.
