Used batteries collection point set up in Dubasari town

A point for collecting used batteries was opened in Dubasari town. This is situated inside the local post office and works from Monday through Saturday. Earlier, similar points were set up within an older initiative in Tiraspol and Bender, IPN reports, quoting the local press.

The authors of the initiative said toxic substances are emitted when the used batteries decompose and these have a negative impact on the environment. A single small battery can pollute 20 square meters of soil and 400 liters of water.

The collected used batteries will be transported to Ukraine’s Odessa and then to Lvov, where there is one of the largest used batteries recycling centers in Europe.
