The use of sodium hypochlorite in the process of treating water contributes to higher quality of water, said Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobeanin. When this technology started to be implemented by SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” in 2008, the company became a famous model for public utilities from the CIS states, IPN reports.

In a communique, SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” says this inoffensive and advantageous technology had been partially implemented at the water treatment station in Vadul lui Voda town within a pilot project in 2008. Afterward, this project was fully implemented in 2012, all the drinking water supplied by “Apa-Canal Chisinau” to end-users in the municipality of Chisinau being treated with sodium hypochlorite.

In the period, the consumers connected to the centralized water supply system of Chisinau municipality could see the difference between the quality of the water treated with sodium hypochlorite and that of the water treated earlier with chlorine. This modern water treatment technology was implemented without raising the water charges, even if the use of this disinfectant implies higher costs.

According to international studies, the use of sodium hypochlorite to treat water is more efficient in combating pathogen microflora as this destroys viruses and germs, including tuberculosis and hepatitis microbacteria.
