Mayor of Balti Renato Usatyi, against whom an arrest warrant was recently issued, said that he will continue to fulfill his duties of mayor even in such conditions. In a news conference in Moscow that was transmitted online in Chisinau, Usatyi said his arrest was planned by Plahotniuc’s regime as this fears the increasing popularity of the Party “Our Party” (PPPN) that he heads, IPN reports.
Renato Usatyi noted that the projects initiated in Balti, including those financed with own resources, will be continued. He will hold online meetings with his colleagues from the local administration. He is not afraid to be dismissed because he is sure that the PPPN will win the eventual new elections in Balti.
The mayor also said that a week ago, the special services of Moldova tried to kidnap him on the territory of Russia and to take him to Belarus, where to ask the Belarusian authorities to extradite him to Moldova because the sides signed an agreement to this effect.
Renato Usatyi also said that the government prepares to rig the elections so that these are won by the Democratic Party’s candidate Marian Lupu.
Last weekend, Renato Usatyi was charged. The Centru Court of Chisinau issued a warrant for the arrest of Usatyi for a period of 30 days because this didn’t appear in court when he was summoned and also based on the statements made by the sides in two trials, one of which concerns the attempt to murder businessman German Gorbuntsov. The politician was put on the wanted list.
