The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat is accused of paying for the PR campaign carried out before the parliamentary elections with money stolen from Banca de Economii (BEM). Such accusations were made by the leader of the political party “Our Party” Renato Usatyi in a news conference on July 27, IPN reports.
According to Renato Usatyi, Vlad Filat had stolen almost US$3 million from BEM and Banca Sociala through the agency of a number of firms, some of each belong to the Rusu family, which are close relatives of the leader of the PLDM. In the end, the money was transferred to the accounts of an offshore company from which it was moved to the account of the United States-based company Greenberg.
To confirm his assertions, Usatyi presented a number of banking documents, contracts signed by Filat and the American company and a letter from the manager of Greenberg by which the Moldovan politician is warned to clear a debt of over US$100,000.
“I don’t know who counseled Filat, but these don’t know that the transfer of money from one account to another can be followed in the same way as a car whose license plate was changed can be followed. They probably forgot that there is Internet. Instead, they were impudent enough to use the money stolen from the BEM to pay for their PR campaign before the parliamentary elections,” stated Usatyi. He added he will present the collected evidence to the Prosecutor General’s Office and will stage protests.
In reaction to the news conference given by Renato Usatyi, the PLDM issued a communique, saying the false statements made today are an additional proof that the PLDM is the key target of those who do not want a pro-European ruling alliance in Moldova. “It is misinformation aimed at promoting the interests of another state. Through lies and manipulation, this personage (Renato Usatyi, e.n.) îi, n.r.) is trying to destabilize the situation in Moldova and to hamper the creation of a ruling alliance,” reads the communique.
The press service of the Lib-Dems notes that all the party’s relations with the partners from the country and abroad are transparent and based on contracts and agreements signed directly with the party, in accordance with the current legislation. “The attempt to attribute contractual relations with other firms to the Liberal Democratic Party is a manipulation act and an attempt to hide the real beneficiaries of the appropriation of money from the banking system,” says the communique. The PLDM reiterates its commitment to contribute to the impartial and objective elucidation of the situation in the banking system and calls on the people not to yield to the manipulation of political adventurers.
