USA disburses additional money for Moldovan justice

The US Government will allocate $1.5 million to support the law enforcing bodies from Moldova to fight human trafficking and public corruption. The decision has been confirmed through an agreement signed on May 22 by deputy premier Victor Stepaniuc and the US ambassador to Moldova, Michael Kirby, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Government's press unit, the funds will be used to insure direct legal assistance in priorities related to the development of the penal justice, specialized training and materials to strengthen the capacities of the bodies responsible for fighting gangs. Michael Kirby confirmed the availability of the US Government to further back the development of the capacities of these Moldovan institutions. Those $1.5 million will be disbursed to finance the following projects: "Legal Counselor”, "Developing Capacities of the Law Enforcing Bodies”, "Technical Counselor of the Legal Bodies of the Human Trafficking Center of the Interior Ministry ” and "the American Barristers Association /the Rule of Law Initiative (ABA/ROLI)”. Moldova and the USA signed an agreement letter on drugs control and application of legal norms in 2001.
