The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova welcomes the resolution of the U.S. Senate with respect to enhanced relations with Moldova and support for Moldova’s territorial integrity, which also calls on the EU to deepen the political and economic association with Moldova, IPN reports.
Given the new regional challenges, the U.S. Senate makes a series of recommendations to Russia, including to refrain from exerting economic pressure on Moldova, to stop supporting the separatist movements in Moldova and to fulfill the commitment to withdraw its troops and munitions from the internationally recognized territory of Moldova.
As to the bilateral cooperation with the United States, the Senate supports the Strategic Dialogue existing between the two countries and encourages the U.S. President and the Department of State to intensify the cooperation relations with the Government and with civil society of Moldova, concentrating the assistance on the implementation of internal reforms, promotion of trade, and investment opportunities. It also encourages cooperation in the area of security and enhancement of educational exchanges between the two states.
As regards the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, the Senate encourages the Transnistrian leaders to resume the political negotiations and supports the constructive commitment and the measures to build confidence between the Government of Moldova and the Transnistrian authorities so as to ensure the peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the conflict, by respecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
