U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken could visit Moldova next week. G4Media reports, with reference to sources, that officials from Chisinau and the U.S. are discussing the possible visit. This would be the second visit by the head of U.S. diplomatic service to Chisinau after the one made in March 2022, IPN reports.
“The agreeing of the visit depends on the evolution of the two major files of the moment – the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the war between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas. The Republic of Moldova has become a hot spot on the map of Europe with the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russia is trying, through political actors, to bring down the pro-Western regime in Chisinau,” said the quoted source.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Moldova in March 2022 as part of a European tour. In Chisinau, Secretary Blinken met with President Maia Sandu, the then Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and the then Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu.
