The United States on Friday announced that it imposed sanctions on fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor’s former accountant Nelli Parutenko, who fled to Moscow in 2022. The sanctions list also includes the noncommercial organization Evraziya, which is affiliated with the Kremlin and the fugitive oligarch Shor, IPN reports.
The sanctions were imposed by the U.S. Treasury Department and come as additions to previous lists. In the recent changes, in addition to Parutenko and Evraziya, there is also Russian propagandist Dmitry Kiselev and the federal news agency Rossiya Segodnya.
The Evraziya project was founded by Nelli Parutenko, a former accountant at the Orhei mayor’s office during Shor’s term as mayor.
Parutenko fled to Moscow in 2022 to hide from an investigation into the alleged illegal financing of the former Shor Party. Parutenko by papers is the director of the nongovernmental organization.
Founded in April 2024, Evraziya for several months has organized trips for hundreds of young people from Moldova to Moscow. Radio Free Europe in August reported that it entered a chat of the organizers and told how young Moldovans are lured and “educated” to promote the Eurasian course.
