The message of the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who paid a visit to Moldova on December 4, was very well formulated and transmitted the United States’ support for continuing the European road. By his messages, the U.S. official told the Moldovan people that any state has the right to choose its friends, future and destiny, former Ambassador of Moldova the U.S. Nicolae Chirtoaca said in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Nicolae Chirtoaca said that any high-ranking visit to Chisinau means encouragement for the reforms and commitments made by Moldova. Moldova’s importance on the political arena increased following the Vilnius Summit, where the Association Agreement with the EU was initialed. John Kerry’s visit to Moldova is not accidental because the country is in an important context from geopolitical viewpoint.

“New priorities appeared with the coming of the Obama administration, with Russia being the 17th in the top of its priorities. We are perceived in the context of the sub-regional policy. In the 5+2 format, the Americans didn’t take another status not because they were refused, but because they understood very well that the separatist regime is fully dependant on Moscow, which this way anchors Moldova in this game. Thus, the United States tell us: help us to help you; do not put us in a situation with Russia as we have strategic relations,” said Nicolae Chirtoaca.

He added that in the near future, Moldova will be subject to external pressure even at the level of Cabinet reshuffles. It’s possible that European commissioners will come to Moldova to help the government not to deviate from the European course. Pressure will be exerted in four areas: the Moldovan migrants, the Transnistrian conflict, the market for selling traditional products, and the energy security.
