The U.S. Government continues to provide support to the judicial system of Moldova. Another 25 sets of videoconferencing equipment were donated by the U.S. people for extending the use of the videoconferencing system in Moldova’s courts of law, U.S. Ambassador in Chisinau Dereck J. Hogan announced in an online news conference.
Dereck J. Hogan was quoted by IPN as saying that owing to this technical support, all the people could benefit from the right to a fair and public trial in front of an independent and impartial tribunal.
“The judiciary and penitentiary systems of Moldova have already an experience of over a year in using videoconferencing. As of the end of 2018, the courts of law in Moldova have held over 5,700 hearings from a distance. This accomplishment was possible by installing 20 videoconferencing sets in the courts of law of Moldova through the agency of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Moldova and the investments made by the Ministry of Justice,” stated the ambassador.
Minister of Justice Fadei Nagachevski said this donation for the Moldovan courts of law is a reiteration and firm continuation of the strategic dialogue in the field of consolidation of the national justice system.
“I want to note that the United States Agency for International Development implemented a series of assistance and development programs for the national judicial system. This way, starting with 2017, the USAID programs for Transparent Justice offer continuous technical assistance to the judicial system of the Republic of Moldova. The implementation of the new integral case management program, modernization of the websites of the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Agency for the Management of Courts of Law are only some of the major accomplishments obtained with the support of the USAID program for Transparent Justice,” stated the minister.
