U.S. official on visit to Chisinau

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken comes to Moldova on a visit today, March 3. The U.S. official will have a meeting with President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici. After the meeting with the head of Government, the two officials will make statements for the press, IPN reports.

Deputy Secretary Blinken’s visit forms part of his European tour. Before coming to Chisinau, the U.S. official visited Paris. After the visit to Moldova, the official will go to London and Berlin, while on March 6 he will travel to Kiev.

Moldova was earlier visited by such U.S. high-ranking officials as Vice President Joseph Biden and Senator John McCain in 2011, and Secretary of State John Kerry in 2013.

The Moldovan-American relations are regulated by 48 bilateral treaties, including accords, memorandums, amendments, agreements, and statements in such sectors as the economy, the army, education, and scientific research.
