U.S. Government will provide financial assistance to develop law enforcers’ capacities
The Government of the United States will offer financial assistance to the Government of Moldova for developing the capacities of the law enforcement bodies, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Government’s press service.
The assistance will be provided under Amendment VIII to the Letter of Agreement regarding the control of drugs and implementation of the legal norms of August 28, 2001 between the U.S. and Moldovan Governments, which was signed in Chisinau on September 22. The document was signed by Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc and the Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Moldova Kelly Keiderling.
The additional financing will be used to implement a project aimed at developing the law enforcement agencies and at strengthening their capacities to investigate and bring offenders that commit serious offences to trial.
The financial support for this project will go to deliver basic training and to purchase the equipment needed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and will offer the instruments needed by the Ministry’s employees to adequately fulfill their duties.
As part of the project, the U.S. Government will organize training seminars to strengthen the basic abilities of the law enforcement bodies and will provide the necessary technical assistance.
Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc said that the Government of Moldova looks for new solutions for combating human trafficking and controlling drugs. The assistance offered by the United States considerably supports the measures launched in Moldova.
