U.S. Embassy opens 2nd basketball camp for Moldovan youths

The U.S. Embassy launched in Chisinau the second in a series of four camps to train youth from around the country in the great American sport of basketball. This camp will instruct about 40 youths, most of whom are from Bender, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the U.S. Embassy.

“We believe team sports help to increase understanding among people of different cultures and beliefs,” said U.S. Ambassador William H. Moser. “We also believe that sports teach us how to set and achieve goals. They teach us self-discipline and how to sacrifice our own interests for the good of the community – which in this case is the team.”

The Embassy also donated about $7,000 in basketball equipment to local youth teams.

The camp, which runs through Sunday, is being held at the Polytechnic Institute sport facility and will be directed by American coach Mike Grinder, Moldovan coach Nick Morari, and two American players, Logan Dahms and Rosbie Hutcherson.
