The United States denounces any unilateral action by either side of the Transnistrian conflict and continues to urge a non-violent settlement of the conflict with a special status for Transnistria within Moldova's sovereign borders, IPN reports.
A press statement of the U.S. Embassy says the United States supports the June 17 statement by OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara regarding the Transnistrian authority's so-called legal act on its border. The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office expressed his concern over the negative implications of the given document for the Transnistrian settlement process.
The so-called legal act on the border was signed by the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk on June 10. National experts said this is a provocation and there is a risk that a new armed conflict will start on the Nistru.
