On the occasion of Victory in Europe Day, celebrated in May 8, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit issued a statement saying the American people join with the Moldovan people in building a prosperous Moldova, IPN reports.
The statement says that May 8 marks the 70th anniversary of the Allies’ defeat of the fascist powers in Europe during World War II. “The American people join with you in commemorating this great victory and honoring the memory of the millions who suffered during the long dark years of conflict. We also join with you in your efforts to build from the ashes of the war a prosperous, democratic Moldova in a Europe whole, free and at peace, so that the sacrifices of so many will not have been in vain,” said the U.S. Ambassador.
