U.S. Ambassador to Moldova considers as “open and sincere” the relations between the two countries

Moldova should follow the European integration way if it wants to reach long-term prosperity, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Michael Kirby believes. The U.S. ambassador told a TV show on DTV on Thursday, July 14, that the USA is not interested in imposing Moldova the policies it should implement and is not competing for country’s influence. “We do not see the relation with Moldova as a competition with other countries. We recognise Moldova as an independent country and we try to help it follow the chosen way. Having experience in building democracy and open economy, USA can only say what it thinks about certain policies”, Michael Kirby mentioned. According to the Ambassador, the settlement of the Transnistrian dispute, as in the case of other frozen conflicts, would mean for these countries, including Moldova, to spur economic growth. “We engage to find solutions. We hope that the foreign donors and businessmen understand that these zones can become politically stable and suitable for investments. We are interested that the citizens of these countries return home, where new workplaces will be created”, the ambassador underlined. Michael Kirby further stated that he does not consider GUAM as an alternative for CIS, but as an efficient forum where the member states discuss and find solutions for the problems they deal with.
