The government focuses on ensuring a transparent and democratic electoral process, while maintaining sanitary and social distance measures in accordance with international practices and standards. Prime Minister Ion Chicu offered assurances in this regard to US Ambassador to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan, during a meeting on Friday.
According to a government press release, the prime minister expressed "concern about the recent frequent attacks on the Central Electoral Commission by electoral contestants, and drew the ambassador's attention to unfounded insinuations about possible attempts to rig the election".
According to the government communiqué, Dereck J. Hogan expressed hope that the relevant authorities will ensure a free and honest electoral process, following which the will of the citizens will be respected.
The US ambassador also had a meeting with the Moldovan head of state, Igor Dodon. "We discussed the topic of the presidential election campaign launch. In this context, I reiterated the intention to participate in the electoral process without using administrative resources. Additionally, I underlined the firm intention of the country's leadership and state institutions to organize transparent, free and democratic presidential elections", said Igor Dodon in a Facebook post.
