The National Library of Moldova hosts an exhibition of urban landscapes depicting Chisinau by artist Valentina Brâncoveanu as part of the Library Nocturnal Campaign 2022, IPN reports. The exhibition entitled “Urban landscapes of Chisinau yesterday and today” includes oil paintings. Valentina Brâncoveanu was born in Chisinau and was inspired by places where she spent her childhood. “I was born with love for the old Chisinau,” stated the artist. 

National Library director Elena Pintilei said the exhibition was mounted ahead of the Day of Chisinau when the residents of the capital city try to exhibit what the city has the best in terms of culture and history. This exhibition contains not only landscapes of the old Chisinau. It is Chisinau yesterday and today with flowers, streets, fences, houses, buildings. The warm colors used by the artist gladden the soul and create that synergy between book, reading and arts in a library.

Elena Pintilei noted that the exhibition is valuable for the history of the tangible heritage of Moldova, especially as regards the architecture of the old Chisinau, as Valentina Brâncoveanu manages to immortalize what is close to extinction.

Master of art Ion Moraru said Valentina Brâncoveanu is devoted to Chisinau and transmits this message by her works. “The exhibition ties us to our roots, makes us not to forget who we are and where we started from,” he stated, noting the protagonist’s paintings emit unimaginable positivism and help us to forget about current problems.

The exhibition can be visited in the central block of the National Library until December 30.
