The municipalities of the Republic of Moldova will be able to take part in a project supported by the Government of Poland, which envisions the development and revitalization of towns. The project was launched at the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction on July 6. Minister Vasile Batca said the towns that recently obtained the status of municipality will benefit from the project the most. The initiatives to which the municipalities will be oriented form part of the National Regional Development Strategy and the local strategies of each municipality, IPN reports.
“The National Regional Development Strategy includes areas that are typical for regional development such as management of solid waste, water and sanitation, energy efficiency, tourist activity, etc. I think the necessities in these areas will be satisfied with the support of the Government of Poland,” stated Vasile Batca.
Deputy Secretary of State of the Polish Ministry of Economic Development Paweł Chorąży said the first projects implemented by Poland in Moldova centered more on the strategic aspect, but the current project lays emphasis on the value of urban policies.
“We had a common history. Poland wasn’t part of the Soviet Union, but belonged to the Eastern Bloc. We mainly faced the same problems, the same limitations and know very well the context of the Republic of Moldova and the problems it experiences. That’s why we consider we can be of assistance to your country through our positive experience and expertise,” stated Paweł Chorąży.
The project will be implemented in three stages during 2017-2019. At the first stage, there will be created working groups. The second stage will consist of training courses, while the third stage of project formulation and participation in the contest to obtain financing from Poland. A sum of €200,000 was allocated for the first stage.
