Upcoming local elections were created in an artificial context, Iurie Leanca

The president of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) Iurie Leanca said he analyzed the electoral programs for the new local elections of Chisinau and Balti and established that the candidates include persons who could meet the requirements. These are pro-European, upright and have a clear view as to how the problems of the city should be solved. The politician didn’t give names yet. In a news conference, Iurie Leanca said the PPEM didn’t field a candidate for the mayoralties of Chisinau and Balti so as not to further segment the European right, IPN reports.

The politician voiced hope that together with the PPEM’s decision, the pro-European right will unite so as not to allow the Socialists to take over as these are enemies of what the European course means. The upcoming local elections were created in an artificial context and only the inhabitants of Chisinau and Balti lose as a result.

“Instead of managing projects that are so necessary for developing the city in the interests of the citizens, the mayor’s offices are thrown into the election campaign when in six months we will enter the parliamentary elections already. Six months after the parliamentary elections, we will enter the campaign prior to the local general elections already,” stated Iurie Leanca.

He urged those who think freely and want the capital city and the whole country to be modernized to show civic maturity and to look at the political picture of the upcoming mayoral elections in the context of this autumn’s parliamentary elections. “The outcome of the elections of this autumn with a Socialist mayor in Chisinau will be a serious blow to the Europeanization of the Republic of Moldova and the ordinary local elections of 2019,” said the politician.
