Unwritten history of Moldova in novels by Mihail Lupashko

Publicist and writer Mihail Lupaskco Saturday launched a book with historical novels called “Salt and Sward”. The author said he inspired himself by the writings of chronicler Miron Costin, trying thus to bring the young generation closer to the unwritten history of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the period described in the book, salt was as expensive as petrol today and the salt businesses had to be defended by sward, said the author. “Salt was very important in the 17th century. No fridges were then and the people could make provisions for winter only with the help of salt. We can say that salt means life. All the salt transportation roads went through the current Moldova. These access roads were haunted by thieves and invaders. The people had to defend the salt with the sward,” Mihai Lupashko said during the launch of the book. The book contains 10 historical novels. The author said his work is intended for the young generation so that they know pages of history that are less known. Every novel starts with a citation from the writings of chronicler Miron Costin. Mihai Lupashko said he read the writings during two years and translated some of the citations an included them in his book so that the Moldovans who speak Russian also know what Miron Costin wrote. Those attending the launch stressed the importance of such a book or the young generation, which is more concerned about cybernetics.
