Unplanned vacations are common in winter, education minister
The unexpected school vacations caused by the low temperatures are a normal phenomenon in winter, said Minister of Education Mihail Shleahtitski. According to him, the education institutions must adjust their program, given the factors that have an impact on the teaching process, including those related to the weather, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The method by which the failed classes will be held will be decided by the district education divisions in concert with the school managers. “Even if the heating process in education institutions is intensified, the temperatures in classrooms remain rather low. Another factor that leads to unplanned vacations is the frost to which the students are exposed when going to school and back,” the minister told the press.
Mihail Shleahtitski does not rule out the possibility that the number of schools that will stop work owing to the cold may rise. The minimum temperature that enables to continue the teaching process is 15 degrees Celsius in classrooms.
According to the Ministry of Education, 162 schools in 16 districts did not work on February 9.
