University hospital to be created within hospital system reform

The types of hospitals and their location will be determined by the coverage area, demographic situation and existing infrastructure. The conception of the new hospital system reform envisions the creation of a university hospital, which will be an institution of excellence that will combine treatment, teaching and research. At the same time, a governmental consultative council would be set up to monitor and supervise the implementation of the hospital system reform, IPN reports.

The hospital system reform was discussed in a meeting with health system specialists that was chaired by Prime Minister Pavel Filip. The Premier said that this year the Government aims to launch a series of important reforms for society, including three reforms in healthcare – hospital system reform, primary medical assistance reform and reform of the public health surveillance sector.

According to Pavel Filip, an efficient hospital reform is needed to ensure medical services of a high quality and accessible to the people. “It is important to have clear policies in the field, to know where we go to and what we want to achieve and to cover the necessary stages step by step. Spending money fragmentarily, without a clear view, is inefficient,” stated the Prime Minister.

Under the conception of the hospital system reform presented by the Ministry of Health, the reform pursues several key goals, namely to ensure medical services of a high quality, to optimize costs by creating a network of functional and cost-efficient regional hospitals and to ensure conditions for sustainably developing the hospital sector. The participants in the meeting are to formulate proposals and suggestions for finalizing the draft reform so that this is approved by the Government in February.
