United States has made a verbal pact with Russia on Transnistria, Viorel Cibotaru
“Joe Biden’s visit was a historic event and will be remembered for years to come. What impressed the most was Joe Biden’s firm and serious attitude when speaking about the Transnistrian conflict and its settlement in favor of Moldova”. This is how political analyst Viorel Cibotaru commented for Info-Prim Neo the US Vice President Joe Biden’s declarations in Chisinau.
The expert thinks that a message about the need to maintain Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity was sent to Eastern and Western political forces. He says the US encouraged Moldova and assured it about Russian guarantees that the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict would not affect Moldova’s territorial integrity.
“Obviously, some Russian politicians don’t like this, as they know the Americans’ resolution. The US Vice President’s statements about the Transnistrian conflict, both here and in Moscow, represent a verbal pact between the USA and Russia on this issue. Such a pact allowed the Baltic States to become what they are today and Central Europe to get rid of post-World War II arrangements and of socialist regimes. It will allow Moldova to join the European Union and keep its Eastern territories”, said Viorel Cibotaru.
During his speech on Friday, March 11, Joe Biden said that Transnistria's future lies inside Moldova and within the community of Europe and that the people of Moldova deserve an end to a dispute that has divided the country for so long.
