The book “The United States and the World Inherited by Obama” written by Catherine Durandin in French is presented in Romanian translational sooner than in the original. The book was launched at the Cartier publishing house's bookshop in Centru district of Chisinau on Monday evening, Info-Prim Neo reports. The book was written before the U.S. President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. The author analyzes the foreign policy of three powers - the United States, NATO and Russia - and the relations between them since the end of the cold war until present. “The launch of Catherine Durandin's book is a very special event. I don't remember seeing a book presented in translation first and then in the original,” said Cartier editor Emilian Galaicu-Paun, who moderated the book launch evening. “This is a continuity in the Franco-Romanian relations via Chisinau. Only several months are needed to translate the books issued by great French publishing houses and print them in our country. I hope we managed to make this a tradition,” said Emilian Galaicu-Paun. Attending the launch of the book, historian Ion Varta said the book is indicated for diplomats and politicians as well as students of the Faculty of International Relations. “I remained impressed by the readability of the book despite academism. The book is accessible to everyone, regardless of the education level. It is like a novel. At the same time, the related events are of a maximum complexity,” Ion Varta said. Politologist Oleg Serebrian said Catherine Durandin in her book analyzes equidistantly and thoroughly the U.S. phenomenon in the post-cold war world. “It is a book about the game played by the power at the macro-global level, about the role of Russia and of the United States as superpower. But it also tries to predict the role that the U.S. will play in the 21st century,” Serebrian said. Politologist Igor Munteanu said that Russia is treated by the West in a different way than the East for example. “This view from Paris is very interesting. We are closer to this state. Sometimes, the grumbling coming from the Moscow elites deafen and break windows in Moldova. I think we can find many answers in this book,” Munteanu said. Catherine Durandin thanked those attending for the friendly discussion and shared autographs to those who bought her book. Catherine Durandin is a writer, historian and professor. She wrote a number of books about the Euroatlantic and U.S. relations. In several days, the book “The United States and the World Inherited by Obama” will be available from the Cartier bookshops at the promotional price of 70 lei.
