An initiative group calls on the political parties, organizations and persons who plead for Moldova’s union with Romania to take part in an assembly on September 30 and to consider the possibility of running in the upcoming parliamentary elections with a common list of candidates.

In a news conference at IPN, Andrei Groza, first pro-rector of the Public Administration Academy who forms part of the initiative group, said the union is a hardly attainable, but not impossible ideal. Discussions to agree a common list of candidates for the legislative elections were held between parties, organization and public persons during the last few months, but these produced no result. When the anti-national parties rejoice at the unionists’ division, it is very important to return to discussions.

“The assembly will show to what extent the leaders of unionist parties are ready to overcome their personal ambitions and group interests and do the union. In order to avoid possible subjective interpretations about the assembly, the media will not have access to this. The results will be made public in a news conference that will be given several days later,” stated Andrei Groza.

Vasile Năstase, another member of the initiative group, said the union is the only chance for the Moldovans to get rid of the scourge that hit the nation. “All the people, the voters want the union. If the Party of Socialists wins 50-60 seats of MP in the elections, this will be a very serious danger for our nation if we do not unite,” he stated.

“The Romanians from Bessarabia should realize that they have the right, as the other nations have, to national self-determination and we should live in a country of our people so as to prosper and contribute to the civilization of the whole mankind by the values of the Romanian nation,” said historian Ilie Şendrea.

The assembly will take place in the festivity hall of the Writers Union on September 30 starting at 12 noon.
