Unionist parties are urged to take part in elections with one list of candidates

The political parties that support Moldova’s union with Romania are invited to take part in this autumn’s parliamentary elections with one list of candidates, which would be approved in a national assembly. The list would include upright persons working in different areas of activity who didn’t discredit themselves politically. The call was made in a news conference at IPN on March 1 by an initiative group that consists of 15 persons. The members of the group said the union is the only solution to the problems faced by the Republic of Moldova.

Initiative group members Andrei Groza, first pro-rector of the Academy of Public Administration, said discussions are being held with two political organizations on their participation, alongside all the unionists, in elections with a common list. The unionist list can be submitted to the Central Election Commission for being registered by one party or by a bloc of parties.

Andrei Groza called on all the parties that want Moldova to unite with Romania to join the initiative as the analysis of the internal situation shows that the parties of the left have real chances of taking over given the misunderstandings between the unionist parties that cannot reach a compromise. “In order to avoid such dangers, all those who think about the destiny of our people and want the two countries to reunify should take part in elections under a common list. If this is not done, the reunification will not be possible,” stated Andrei Groza.

Vasile Nastase, another member of the initiative group, said the only solution for Moldova to overcome the current situation is to unite with Romania. During over 25 years, the citizens hoped for a better life, but the living conditions haven’t improved. Vasile Nastase called on all those who want Moldova to prosper to join the initiative so that the elections are won by the unionists. “If this does not happen, the union is doomed to failure,” he stated.

Initiative group member Emil Rusu said Romania now has the largest economic growth among the EU member states. Romania’s economy is several times more modern than Moldova’s. Through reunification, Moldova can swiftly become a member of the EU.
