The UNION Political Movement proposes identifying a common unionist candidate for the presidential elections. The leader of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoacă said there are at least three arguments in favor of a common candidate: the unionists do not want to give a useless vote; the movement should show that it has solutions to any problem faced by the country, and the necessity of returning to democracy and normality, which will be impossible without the unionists because the pro-European vote is in the minority, IPN reports.
In a news conference, Dorin Chirtoacă said that at the presidential elections, Igor Dodon will fight Renato Usatyi on the left, Adrian Candu will fight Pavel Filip on the center-left, while Maia Sandu will fight Andrei Năstase on the center right. “Shall we fight between us, the unionists, on the right?” he asked. “On the contrary, we should be different from all the other electoral segments and have a common candidate on the right so that we do not have to struggle to see who is more powerful.”
The Liberal leader noted that it was decided to hold online public meetings on how the right should behave at the presidential elections every day starting at 7pm, as from this Sunday, June 21.
Valeriu Munteanu, who heads the Save Bessarabia Union, said that when founding the UNION Political Movement, its members declared that this entity should represent all the unions in the Republic of Moldova, both private individuals and civic entities, and platforms were created for the movement to attract adherents.
“Almost half a year since the founding of the UNION Political Movement and with the approaching of the presidential elections, we ascertained that there is yet another political entity in the Republic of Moldova that has the same statuary and programmatic desiderata as the parties that are components of the UNION Political Movement, but this didn’t want so far to combine forces with us,” stated Valeriu Munteanu, referring to the National Unity Party.
Vasile Costiuc, leader of the Democracy at Home Party, noted that the union of the “healthy forces” is the only viable solution for the unionists. “We, instead of joining forces and becoming a powerful voice, are measuring swords between us,” he said.
The UNION Political Movement consists of five parties, namely the Democracy at Home Party, the Liberal Party, the National Liberal Party, the Romanian People’s Party, and the Save Bessarabia Union.
