The Union Political Movement on August 29 filed the required documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) for registering the electoral bloc “Union” for participation in the presidential elections. Contacted by IPN for details, one of the Movement’s leaders Valeriu Munteanu, who heads the Save Bessarabia Union, said that after the submission of the documents, the CEC has five days to register the bloc. They will later take an internal decision as regards the candidate for President.
Valeriu Munteanu said they had discussions with the PAS, the PPPDA and the PLDM, when this was led by Tudor Deliu, but no meeting was productive. “After Filat returned, I don’t think we will have any relation with the PLDM. We consider the PLDM under the direction of Vladimir Filat is a dubious, political business,” he stated. He added that they made calls to identify a common political solution with the National Unity Party, but they were rejected.
As to the call made by the Party “We Build Europe at Home” (PACE), led by Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, to combine forces and consider fielding electoral candidates with pro-European views so as to increase the chances of winning the upcoming presidential elections, Valeriu Munteanu said he didn’t see such a call from this party and does not know what it contains, but they will not accept to discuss with those who have connection with the bank fraud or are at the beck and call of Moscow.
The Union Political Movement was founded in the middle of this January by five parties, namely the Liberal Party, the Romanian People’s Party, the Save Bessarabia Union, the Democracy at Home Party and the National Liberal Party.
